About the Poem

Life is very short - so we must strive to make the best of our days. For one day, we may find it is too late for us to make up for the time lost. Death is a reality, one that is inevitable. Better to be prepared rather than to be shocked by a terrifying after death experience.

The Nonbeliever's Soul

The footsteps walk away,
it is the final day,
now I'm here all alone,
my earthly life is gone,

buried down so deep,
no comfort and no sleep,
screaming out in fear,
but no mortal can hear,

It is too late to reform.
I said tomorrow morn,
but the morning never came,
my excuses were so lame,

it will not help to weep,
no blessings here to reap,
no chance for good deeds to gain,
I'm lying here in vain,

All the pomp and all the fame,
my actions were insane,
don't call out my name,
I'm embarrassed, I'm in shame,

but worse than all of that,
I'm constricted on this mat,
I can not even breathe,
Oh, how deeply I grieve,

Not a person to console me,
I was free to be,
I chose the dubious path,
I chose the desolate wrath,

My ribs are crushed together,
my body and soul have severed,
there is no solace ahead,
nothing, but that I dread,

From Heaven the Angels descend,
what harm do they intend?
their faces black as death,
carrying strips of cloth,

coming to snatch my miserable soul,
and yank it out with just one pull,
by every Angel it will be cursed,
in the Heavens and the Earth,

Wrapped in that cloth so coarse,
nothing could be any worse,
for it emits the foulest scent,
to which I can make no comment,

They ask whose ugly soul this is,
none other but mine 'tis,
for my soul Heaven is denied,
in guilt and remorse my soul has cried,

But it was I who chose my own dark way,
and never did I imagine this day,
I thought it wouldn't approach so fast,
I thought I could adjust my past,

My soul has now returned to me,
and now I mourn eternally,
I fear that wretched, wicked day,
that is not nearly far away,

Two Angels appear,
Interrogation is near,
Sit up, "Who is your Lord? "
I can not utter a single word,

"What is your religion? " they ask,
"I only heard people mention it, " I gasp,
"I did not know, I did not read." "LIAR!",
spread out for him a place to see the fire,

And struck by the final blow,
to dust I turn, I shriek "OH NO! "
Lord, please don't establish the Hour,
for I know by the fire I'll be devoured,

Don't let this be your poor, poor soul,
the ambition to seek your Lord is your goal,
Keep in mind that your end is near,
and let it be God All Mighty that you fear.

THIS POEM IS SOOOO TRUE! LET GOD BE MAGNIFIED FOREVER AND ETERNITY. IT IS SAD HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL SEE THE DEVIL CATCHING THEIR SOULS WHEN IT IS WAY TOO LATE. WE MUST WARN THEM, BEFORE THIS HAPPENS. THIS WORLD NEEDS TO BEAR THE TRUE AND HOLY NAME OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST FOREVER MORE. AMEN AND AMEN.

This poem really gives you a scare about what God will say to you on the day that you die, whether it be, "Well done, my good and faithful servant. " or "I never knew you. " Thanks for writing this poem. And thank God for sending us Jesus to take our place!
Marta
I like the strong feeling of despair in this poem. It really gets the point across. Yet, I do not think we will be asked what our religion is. More likely what did we believe. Those are two diferent things.
