About the Poem

This poem is dedicated to my step brother Michael, who in 1996 was diagnosed with AIDS. I love him dearly to this day, and I promise him I will never ever forget him. He taught me very valuable lessons that I will never forget.

I Love You, Michael

I never thought,
I would see the day.
When you wouldn't be there,
to show me the way.
You taught me the difference,
between right and wrong.
You always had a way,
but that was before you were gone.
You'd come up to visit,
but for a short while.
To tease and to tickle,
but you always made me smile.
I don't know how you did it,
I'm not sure I really care.
But I know that you are with me,
I know that you are there.
I cried and I cried,
for what seemed like forever.
But I knew that some day,
We would be together.
One day you were there,
the next you had to leave.
I didn't know what to do,
I didn't know what to believe.
In front of my friends,
I tried not to cry.
But I kept wondering why.
Why this and why that,
why you had to go.
I tried my hardest,
not to let my feelings show.
I couldn't just say,
my brother had died.
I knew nothing would change,
so I kept it inside.
It took me quite a while,
to except that you would die.
With that I want to say,
I miss you and goodbye.

i have read the poem and it has saddened me as i have just buried my young brother ken at the age of 48yrs. he was buried in london where he lived but i live in yorkshire and i seem miles away from him i cry everynite and cant come to turns with him not being with me your poem has touched my heart . this is truelly the best poem i have ever read and will certainly keep it close to my heart. many thanks paula he was buried on the 23rd march 2007

This poem was so good. I cried when I first read this because it reminds me of when my Grandmother died. I felt unloved,lost,and and felt like my family has went their seperate ways lince her death. The only time when our family comes together is when we celebrate a birthday or some holiday. I miss her so much. This peom really touched my heart.

This poem, I can honestly say brought tears to my eyes. As I was reading it, I could relate to it so much. Out of all the poems I've read so far, about losing someone, this is byfar the one I enjoy, the one I can actually think about my Uncle while reading it. Losing somone so close to you, it the hardest thing in life. I'm sorry you lost your brother, everything happens for a reason. This poem was very well put together, Nice job. Take Care.

i like poems like this because i had a friend who died because a drunk driver hit her. she died and a lot of people were hurt by this becuase the guy who hit her is alive in mexico somewhere. she was only 17 and she was the happiest, funniest and livliest girl i have ever known.

I just lost my brother to a disease called PCP namonia, which I learned that with someone who had Hiv/Aids was the number one killer for them. Even though he didnt exactly die from aids, this poems really made me cry hard. I miss my brother dearly, we were always close to each other, and we only just found out he had this disease 5 days before he died, he had it for 3 years. Its hard for me to get over the loss, and I'm having a hard time dealing with it, but your poem was so true to the heart. Thanks for sharing it with everyone

I really liked this poem and it really touched me. My brother's name is michael and I dont know what I would do without him. He suports me in everything i do and makes me laugh when im sad. I dont show that i love him but i know i should. i dont act like i apreciate what he does but i really do and reading this poem made me see that I have to let my love show. I dont know what i would do if my brother deid. Just thinking about it makes me want to cry. I feel realy sorry for the writer of this poem. i just want to tell you that i admire you for getting through this. A lesson that everyone gets from this poem is appretiate your sibalings, you dont know what you have until its gone.

I'm touched by this poem. My best friend died of AIDS when I was 7 yrs old. She was 10 yrs old when she died. I am 17 and I can still feel the pain. You never lose the sorrow of losing someone near to your heart. But no matter how much it hurts, you know they are in heaven and are not suffering. You know they will be held in your heart forever and ever.

Omg, I feel your pain so much, I know excactly how you feel my heart got broken twice, one of my older brother died of Aids in 1998 and my other older brother died of Aids Last christmas of 2003 . they were both into the drugs and i really miss them so very much

Thank-you. My own brother died from AIDS 3 months ago after 12 years of fighting it, he died 3 days after his 19th birthday. Your poem expresses so perfectly my own feelings, thank-you for showing that you can get through it, that the pain does end. I'll always miss my brother as i know you do.

I'd just like to say i love your poem. It touched quite a few emotions i've been hiding the last few days. I found out that my best friend who has been HIV+ for the last 10 yrs has developed AIDS. This is a difficult time for all involved and brave people such as yourself who have been through something similar make the pain just that little bit easier to bare. It's not easy to watch someone die slowly, i know having done it with my father, but knowing that people have made it. thats the greatest comfort of all.
