About the Poem
In my home, we have no air conditioner and I am the only one with a bedroom fan. The fan is useless. In fact, I often resort to sleeping in a tent in the backyard for part of the summer in order to get a decent nights sleep. I don't remember exactly what struck me to write this poem. But whenever I read it, it almost makes me look forward to those summer nights again.
Sleepless In Summer |
by Erin Elizabeth |
The stagnant air blocks all my thoughts, But those of you. Crickets chirp their unfulfilled prophesy in the night. I turn trying to remove some of the darkness that envelopes me. The whir of my bedroom fan does nothing more Than move the air around, And churn my empty thoughts, Until they are as thick as the air around me. |
