About the Poem
I wrote this poem for my girlfriend Erica after visiting Paris for her birthday last year. Paris is one of the most amazing places I've ever been. I find it inspiring and incredibly romantic.
A number of my favorite poets and artists are strongly associated with Paris and the street performers are fantastic. So this is my ode to Paris and its many young lovers.
Parisian Lovers |
by Richard James Bayless |
Warm with love, a young couple pass Through the cold streets of Notre dame Where Parisian children perform their arts To the madding crowds, who gaily applaud Gargoyle faces stare down from above Sinister and plotting, jealous of love Oblivious to the world, our young lovers don't care They dance and play to the gargoyle's dismay To a fast tempo carnival, chaotic and loud Without aim they barge through the crowd Alcohol soaked scholars, drum and bright jesters This scene slowly festers So, to the next street, with no soul around In an embrace, our young lovers are found Forever in love, they will never die Eternally side by side, they will forever lie |
