About the Poem

When my husband and I married 16 years ago, at the tender ages of 16 and 18, we endured the many "you'll never make it," "you're too young to marry," and "too young to know what love is" comments. But our love has beaten all of the odds. We've grown together, laughed together, cried together, and most importantly, survived together.

This is a love poem for soul mates, and anyone else who believes in a little word we call destiny.

How Could I Know

The first time I laid eyes on you,
How could I have ever knew.
That you were an angel, sent from above,
A gift to my soul, for my heart to love.

The one God picked, 'specially for me,
By my side forever, us two to be.
How could I know, when our love just begun,
That our hearts would melt, our souls become one.

And how could I know, the first time we met,
Our lives were worked out, our paths were set.
By a little word, we call destiny,
Our bond to each other, always to be.

Yes, the first time I laid eyes on you,
Long before we said "I do",
How could I have ever knew,
Our love for each other would see us through.

Glenda, this is not a vote because I know you. This work hit home. Been married longer than you, but the emotions are the same. I'm not emotionally stable, but even if I were, this one would have brought the same tears.
