About the Poem

I was very lonely one night and the jazz was playing, the candles were lit, and the red wine was tasting too good - a recipe for feeling sorry for yourself. I started to re-live a few memories, in particular, a girl I had met and had a 4 month intense love affair with. This changed my life but only after living through some dark times. She was the brightest light in my short life, but left me with the darkest times...

Brighter Lights, Darker Shadows

The light dodges the darkness
As the sweet melody embraces the scene.

I spoil it with my loneliness.

It's dull ache dances in the shadows,
Warming itself on my heart.

And ignoring my thoughts, it writhes in comfort,
With its belief and its power.

My feeling become not my own..

And with just clarity I find
With brighter lights come darker shadows.
