About the Poem

This poem is a tragic end to a verbally abusive relationship.

Why Did You Pick Me?

I don't know how you do it,
The way you make me feel
Like I was some type of fruit peel
You would toss to the side
and later throw away.

You picked me from the others -
Oh, why did you pick me?
So you could reveal the inside,
What is hidden deep within me.
All the ugly scars that you couldn't see.

Exploit me to the world,
So it could disassemble me,
Then come running back to pick me up
To put me back together,
Just the way you wanted me.

Oh yes, you are my savior,
To be right there for me.
And when you fall asleep tonight,
With your back turned to me,
I will show you my appreciation

For all you have done for me.
