About the Poem

This poem was written after seeing the Vietnam Wall for the first time. The emotions that I felt were breath taking. May you see the images of the men and women who died as you read these words.

Images

The Vietnam Wall was before me
and suddenly I could not breathe;
If I leaned forward really close
oh! the faces I could see.

Do you see the young man on the left
the one with eyes so clear;
I wonder if I leaned closer
what stories I would hear?

The dark haired man who is kneeling down
with tear drops in his eyes;
I wonder, what were his thoughts
moments before he died?

To some of us, these are just names
reflections on a wall;
But to others, just to caress a face once more
they would give everything they own.

These men and women gave their lives
many years ago;
But they live on in the hearts of loved ones
and with their names engraved on this wall.

That was a very nice poem. It was true that these men and women just werent names but people who fought for all the good we have now.
