About the Poem
I wrote this poem when I was back in 1991, after seeing a documentary about the growing number of teenagers diagnosed as HIV positive. Children in the UK at this time seemed to have an air of naivete and ignorance about them!! It was probably the first poem I had ever written and although it shows in its simplicity, it's one I still like to look back at.
Ignorance |
by Jacquie Quant |
In the heat of the moment A mistake has been made There is no turning back You can never be saved. Like a mouse in the winter Dormant it lies Attacking the cells Increasing by size Unaware of it's presence Like rabbits you roam Several millions on And the poison has grown In the heat of the moment What's your reaction? You've started and finished The final transaction. |
