About the Poem

I cried when I saw the carnage of the Massacre at Columbine High School in Littleton Colorado. Such a beautiful place, such an ugly occurrence, and such a terrible waste of young lives ready to bloom. I was compelled to write, the following day, about the perpetrators. I don't know why, the words just seemed to come to me, so I wrote them. I truly pray there will never be another event such as this one.

The Price Of Ignorance

They dressed in black and gave their cult an ugly name.
We ignored it.

They set up an Internet page and spelled out their anger.
We ignored it.

They wore black raincoats to make a morbid statement.
We ignored it.

They collaborated in making weapons of destruction.
We ignored it.

They dropped out of our society to create their own.
We ignored it.

They worshiped, openly, one of the most horrific figures who lived in our century.
We ignored it.

They warned us that the 20th of April would be their date.
We ignored it.

They confided in at least a few other acquaintances.
We ignored it.

Yes, there is a common thread, among these disturbed and troubled children;
But - we ignored it!
